After our last post detailing the why, what, when and how of Bethenny’s own personalized juice cleanse, we received a lot of questions asking for specific menus. If you haven’t already done so, we strongly recommend that you read the first post on her cleanse and watch her video, and then come back and read this.

Before we dive into the day-by-day menus, some principles that Bethenny shared in our last post are worth repeating here as you consider if and how you want to customize your own juice cleanse menu.

  • Purchase or make: I typically buy 6 juices a day – and it’s not always juice. Sometimes I’ll have kombucha. Sometimes I’ll have one of those young coconuts, or a nut milk. Sometimes I’ll have an organic smoothie.
  • Organic is best: It’s a good idea to get organic juices, because you’re putting them directly into your system – you don’t want to be loading pesticides directly into your system. That said, even if you can’t do organic, high quality juices with raw ingredients will help your body rest.
  • Mix it up: When deciding how to tailor your cleanse for your own body, you want to mix it up because otherwise you will get bored and quit.
  • Educate yourself: Learn about the benefits of various fruits and vegetables, and incorporate them in a balanced way. For example, beets are known to promote liver health. Apples are known to promote gall bladder health. Cayenne pepper is said to be good for cleansing as well. Asparagus and cucumbers are natural diuretics. Carrots are said to be good for eyes. Greens contain good antioxidants and fiber. Tomatoes contain lycopene, a powerful antioxidant.
  • Strike a balance: Mix it up, but don’t overdo the sugar. You want to make sure that at least 1/2 your juices or pureed soups are hard core vegetable. Sometimes if I need a treat I’ll have a coconut popsicle – I really try to keep what I eat / drink as close to nature as possible, ideally raw, gentle on your system, not seasoned, not processed, and definitely not out of a box.
  • Break your cleanse properly: How you break the cleanse is even more important than how you do the cleanse it self. I take 1/2 the number of days I was on the cleanse to break the cleanse.

Bethenny’s 8-Day Juice Cleanse Menu

Overview

Each day, Bethenny incorporates 6 or 7 elements of juice or pureed soups. She likes to vary the flavors and textures and pays special attention to the beneficial properties of the ingredients. Because of her jam packed schedule, Bethenny frequently purchases juices, but homemade juices are just as good. Here is her simple green juice recipe.

Day 1 – Cleansing

  1. Cold brew coffee with almond milk – if you need coffee or matcha, have one. Just keep it as close to nature as possible – ideally cold brew and with nut milk.
  2. ‘Love Me’ cold pressed juice from Juice Press (green apple, spinach, kale, and lemon) – you can also make this at home with these ingredients, and add anything else you like. Bethenny likes to add 1 sweet element to her green juices when she’s getting tired of the pure greens.
  3. Celery juice – celery contains powerful anti-oxidants and cancer-fighting compounds. It also helps to activate the gut, is an anti-inflammatory, and aids liver function – among many other benefits.
  4. Remedy Organics Shake purchased on Amazon – Bethenny likes the Berry Immunity which contains elderberry, strawberry, camu camu, echinacea, lion’s mane mushroom and prebiotics, and is rich in vitamin C and vitamin D. You can easily make something similar yourself with a little bit of fruit (watch the sugar), nut milk, and your favorite greens.
  5. Puréed cauliflower – Bethenny made hers from a shelf-stable packet of cauliflower rice like this one with salt and puréed with immersion blender (you can also put it in a regular blender or food processor). You can also buy frozen cauliflower rice like this or sometimes find a container of fresh cauliflower rice in the produce section of your local supermarket.
  6. Evolution Fresh Organic Super Fruit Greens Cold Pressed Juice purchased at Starbucks (orange, mango, pineapple, cucumber, spinach romaine, kale). Again, super easy to make this at home with a bunch of greens and a little bit of fruit.
  7. Coconut popsicle – sometimes after a day of juicing it’s soothing to have something cold and a little sweet, but that doesn’t take you off track. Bethenny keeps coconut popsicles in her freezer like these.
  8. Glass of organic wine – not ideal, but it was organic and while Bethenny doesn’t usually take anything to sleep, she was having trouble and needed a little extra help this night. She has found that her sleep has improved during and after cleansing.

Day 2 – Cleansing

  1. Matcha almond milk latte – Bethenny tries to limit caffeine during a cleanse but if this is going to get you through the cleanse and help you stay consistent, have one.
  2. Remedy Organics Cacao Essentials smoothie purchased on Amazon – this one contains almond milk, peruvian cacao, dates, ashwagandha, maca, and prebiotics. It is nutrient dense and filling, and scratches that chocolate itch without a lot of sugar. Try saying ashwagandha ten times. Or, learn more about it here.
  3. Suja Classic Master Cleanse (maple syrup, lemon, cayenne) – this is also good to drink throughout any of your cleanse days as a detoxifying filler. Cleansing, purifies the blood.
  4. Celery juice – celery contains powerful anti-oxidants and cancer-fighting compounds. It also helps to activate the gut, is an anti-inflammatory, and aids liver function – among many other benefits.
  5. Apple, beet (known to promote liver health), apple cider vinegar juice from the local juice bar (Bethenny’s local juice bar is Meli-Melo in Greenwich, CT). You can pick up a similar juice at Whole Foods (beet, orange, carrot), your local juice bar if there is one in your area, or make it at home.
  6. O2Living Juice purchased from Amazon – pineapple, kale and apple. If you need something a little sweeter this is a good choice – you can also make a version at home with similar ingredients and add some refreshing mint. Kale contains good fiber and antioxidants and pineapple contains bromelain which is said to have anti-inflammatory properties.
  7. Pureed asparagus soup – so easy to make – just add vegetable broth, chopped fresh asparagus, salt and pepper. Bring to a boil, then simmer until the asparagus is soft. Puree with an immersion or regular blender. Asparagus is a natural diuretic.

Day 3 – Cleansing

  1. ‘Clean Green Protein Smoothie’ from Juice Press. Sometimes it’s easier to stock up on a few juices from a juice bar, but you can easily replicate these at home with store bought ingredients – spinach, kale, plant protein, flaxseed, chia, almond butter, banana, coconut nectar, almond milk. Ask them to leave out the almond butter to make it less thick and easier to digest, or make it at home.
  2. Celery juice – celery contains powerful anti-oxidants and cancer-fighting compounds. It also helps to activate the gut, is an anti-inflammatory, and aids liver function – among many other benefits.
  3. ‘Simple Green’ cold pressed juice from Juice Press or DIY with similar ingredients (celery, cucumber, kale, lemon). Again, great source of diuretics, fiber, and anti-oxidants.
  4. Evolution Fresh Organic Super Fruit Greens Cold Pressed Juice (orange, mango, pineapple, cucumber, spinach romaine, kale) purchased at Starbucks.
  5. Pureed butternut squash soup with a few simple ingredients: onions, vegetable stock, cubed butternut squash, salt and pepper – bring to a boil then simmer until the squash is tender. Puree with a regular or immersion blender. Watch this video of a similar recipe here.
  6. Pureed carrot soup – chopped carrots, vegetable stock, fresh ginger, salt and pepper – bring to a boil, simmer until the carrots are soft. Puree with a regular or immersion blender.
  7. Coconut popsicle – a refreshing, lightly sweet treat that doesn’t derail you. Bethenny keeps coconut popsicles in her freezer like these.

Day 4 – Cleansing

  2. Pressed Juicery ‘Greens 2 Sweet Greens Juice’ (apple juice, cucumber juice, celery juice, lemon juice, spinach juice, kale juice, parsley). Easy to prepare at home with store bought ingredients. Good source of antioxidants, fiber, diuretics.
  3. Kombucha – a fermented black or green tea – read more about Kombucha here.
  4. Puréed cauliflower soup – another super easy soup to make with chopped cauliflower, vegetable broth, salt and pepper. Bring to a boil, then simmer until the cauliflower is very soft. Puree with a regular or immersion blender.
  5. Celery juice – celery contains powerful anti-oxidants and cancer-fighting compounds. It also helps to activate the gut, is an anti-inflammatory, and aids liver function – among many other benefits.
  6. Suja Organic Carrot Orange Cold Pressed Juice purchased on Amazon, containing carrots, orange, pineapple and lemon. Carrots provide beta carotene, fiber, vitamin K1, potassium, and antioxidants and are linked to good eye health.

Day 5 – Starting to Break the Cleanse

  3. Bowl of fresh berries
  4. Matcha almond milk latte
  5. Salad with avocado, green beans, cucumbers, and tomatoes with Skinnygirl salad dressing – you can sub in or add any of your favorite vegetables, legumes, or grains.
  6. Pureed carrot soup – chopped carrots, vegetable stock, fresh ginger, salt and pepper – bring to a boil, simmer until the carrots are soft. Puree with a regular or immersion blender.
  7. Coconut popsicle like this one from Outshine.

Day 6 – Breaking the Cleanse

  1. Salad with broccoli, tomatoes, and raw corn, but any combination of vegetables is great – and add crunch with nuts or seeds if desired. Dress with Skinnygirl dressing or a simple dressing made with whatever you have on hand – olive oil, lemon juice or vinegar, a little mustard, salt and pepper.
  2. Celery juice – celery contains powerful anti-oxidants and cancer-fighting compounds. It also helps to activate the gut, is an anti-inflammatory, and aids liver function – among many other benefits.
  3. Juice Press ‘Mother Earth’ cold pressed juice (cucumber, celery, kale, Swiss chard, dandelion, parsley, lemon, ginger). This is a great combination that delivers diuretic properties, anti-oxidants, fiber, and medicinal properties of ginger.
  4. Bowl of brown rice – simple but filling. Buy ready-to-eat brown rice like this or make it yourself.
