We get this question all the time. Which credit card should I be using for purchases and for travel? It’s important to note that no two points are equal. For example, while you may have seen the Capital One double miles commercials detailing that some of their cards offer you double miles on every purchase you make – and you thought “wow, that’s awesome” – the truth is their cards may be a good choice for some but typically their points are worth less than competitors points which is why they’re able to give more points.
We would recommend:
- Chase Reserve Credit Card for everyday purchases – amazing value providing great points per purchase and awesome credits for changes in travel plans, paying for TSA fees and a dedicated concierge as well as special incentives like using Lyft gives you 10 points for every dollar.
- An Amex card for booking flights. Amex has three cards, aimed at small business owners, that give points rebates (which arrive within approximately two months) when you pay with points for flights:
- Amex Business Gold: 25% points back
- Amex Business Platinum: 35% points back
- Amex Business Centurion: 50% points back
